On the opening of the Belarusian Corner in Ankara

04.10.2021

On October 1, 2021, in the historical center of the capital of the Republic of Turkey – the Fortress of Ankara – the official opening of the Belarusian Corner took place, a place where everyone can get acquainted with the works of fine art of Belarusian masters.

Reference. Ankara Fortress is a historical castle located in the Altyndag district of Ankara. The exact date of its construction is reliably unknown, but historians have established that the castle existed at the beginning of the second century BC, when the Galatians settled in Ankara.

The Belarusian Corner is an initiative of the Turkish collector and philanthropist Erol Ugurlu, who has Belarusian and Russian roots (his mother – from Grodno, and his father – from St. Petersburg), implemented jointly with the Embassy of the Republic of Belarus in Ankara.

The opening of the exhibition of paintings and products of the art industry of Belarusian artists and craftsmen was timed to coincide with the beginning of the work of the Turkish-Russian House of Friendship of Diplomats and Artists, which also houses the work of Russian and other artists of the CIS countries. In the premises of the Belarusian Corner visitors were treated to dishes of Belarusian national cuisine.

The solemn event, along with the Ambassador of Belarus to Turkey V.Rybak and the staff of the Embassy, was attended by the Ambassador of Russia to Turkey A.Yerkhov, the head of the Rossotrudnichestvo representative office in Turkey A.Sotnichenko, the Vice Mayor of Ankara B.Odemish, the head of the municipality of the Altyndag district of Ankara A.Balji, representatives of the Turkish and Russian public.

In his speech on the occasion of the opening of the Belarusian Corner, the Ambassador of Belarus V. Rybak stressed that Erol Ugurlu, being a patriot of his country, makes an important contribution to strengthening and developing cultural ties with Belarus, Russia and other countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States. That is why in the Turkish-Russian House of Friendship of Diplomats and Artists you can find works by authors of the CIS countries.

Nowadays, the Belarusian Corner has been represented, among other things, by the works of the Grodno Regional Methodological Center for Folk Art Foundation, the Mostovsky District Center for Crafts, and the Department of Craft and Folk Art of the Shchuchinsky District Center for Culture and Folk Art.
