The Ambassador of Belarus met with Director of the Belarusian Corner

January 19, 2023 Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Belarus to Türkiye Victor Rybak met with Director of the Belarusian Corner (Ankara), Turkish collector and philanthropist Erol Uğurlu, who has Belarusian roots.

On the day of the religious date of the Epiphany of the Jesus Christ on behalf of and in the presence of the staff of the Embassy, V.Rybak provided to E.Uğurlu the Icon of the Mother of God of Suknevich.

For reference: according to legend, the Icon was revealed in the 17th century in Suknechevy (now the village of Suknevichi, Smorgon district, Grodno region). Local residents saw her hanging from a pear tree. Perceiving this miracle as God's will, the pear tree was cut down and in its place around 1640, it was built a chapel, in which the found icon was placed.

The Orthodox icon will be placed in the Belarusian Corner, open to all guests, and further – in the private Orthodox chapel of the Turkish philanthropist, located in his museum complex in the Ankara Castle.
