About the visit of the Ambassador of Belarus V. Rybak to Iraq

The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Belarus to the Republic of Türkiye and the Republic of Iraq concurrently, Viktar Rybak, is paying a working visit to Iraq (Baghdad).

On January 29, 2024 the Ambassador met with Iraqi Minister of Justice Dr. Khaled Shwani. The parties discussed the areas of cooperation between Belarus and Iraq in the sphere of mutual legal assistance to the citizens of the two countries. They also touched upon the protection of the interests of Belarusian and Iraqi citizens imprisoned in penitentiary institutions of the two countries, as well as the development of the legal framework in this area. As a follow-up to the meeting, the head of the Belarusian diplomatic mission visited the Rozafa Penitentiary Institution.

On the same day, V. Rybak met with the Minister of Youth and Sports of Iraq Ahmed Al-Mubarqa. The Iraqi counterpart was informed about the potential of Belarusian sports facilities, which the Iraqi side can use to hold training camps for its national teams in various sport disciplines. The parties agreed to expand cooperation in this area.

The Ambassador V. Rybak also met with Dr. Naeem Abd Yaser Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research of Iraq. The parties expressed their interest to develop cooperation through the exchange of students as well as teaching staff of Belarus and Iraq.

After the meetings, the Ambassador V. Rybak invited all Iraqi officials to visit Belarus for the development of dialogue with their Belarusian counterparts.
